Directions
to Fuego
Blanco
1. a. From Malaga, take the motorway westwards towards Cartama. Go to No.2 below.
b. From Malaga Airport, take the motorway towards Malaga, and after about 1km take the turning for Motril. This takes you onto a parallel motorway. Follow (c) below.
c. From the Torremolinos direction, approaching Malaga on the motorway, make for Cartama and Universidad. This turnoff has a 1 Km dedicated motorway lane before arriving at the slip road. The slip road immediately divides into two take the left one signposted to Cartama. After going under a bridge, immediately branch to the right across a scissor-type junction onto a circular slip road towards Cartama (a pillar of signs is in front of you). This road joins the motorway leading westwards from Malaga. Go to No.2 below.
d. From the north and east (Madrid, Granada, Seville, etc), take the Granada to Seville motorway. From the north, after passing Antequera on the left, branch left towards Campillos and in the direction of Olvera and Jerez. From the east – follow the Seville to Granada motorway turning off to the right near Osuna towards Campillos. Note: There are a number of turning to Malaga before reaching Campillos - do not take them. Nearing Campillos, follow directions to Malaga. This is a fairly new fast road and not shown on all maps. Do not take the Carratraca road to Alora, but continue for about 18 Kms and turn left towards Pizarra and Alora. After about 0.5km, turn left towards Alora and Ardales Natural Park. Continue with number 4 below.
2.
After about
25 Kms, the motorway changes to an ordinary road .
Continue in the direction of Campillos on this road for about 5Km (3
to 5 minutes) until reaching a right turning signposted to Alora and Pizarra.
3.
Take this
road and after only a short distance there is a T junction signposting Alora
and Pizarra to the right. Continue up the slope and follow the road as it curves left towards
Alora (about 7Km away).
4.
On
approaching the Alora area, do not
take the left hand turning signposted to Alora [Nuevo Acceso], but continue straight on and around a right-hand
bend, over a river bridge and up a slope to a T junction with Los Caballos Bar/Restaurant high on the left hand bank.
5.
Turn left
towards Alora and Ardales Natural
Park, and continue along this winding road (about 1 Km) until you reach the
beginning of a village. At the roundabout (not very obvious) turn left towards Alora.
6.
The road
crosses over a river and railway line. Continue up the winding hill into the
outskirts of Alora until reaching roundabout (about 2Km and
just after the Municipal Piscina (swimming
pool) on the right). Turn right towards El Chorro at the
roundabout.
7.
This winding
road leads out of Alora. About 3-4 minutes drive (about 2km) from the roundabout
and going down a hill, there is a solitary bus shelter on the left. After
two more bends, there is a yellow 2 km sign on the right (sometimes hidden
by weeds). (If you get to a double
bend sign with a 40 km speed limit, you have gone too far. Reverse about 30
meters). Between these two signs there is a tarmac track on the right, marked by a sign "casa blanca", two wooden wheely bin containers and
a small peach coloured bungalow called Le Triangulo on the corner. Turn down this track in front of the bungalow
gates.
8.
Continue
around several bends and past Villa Martin (on the right). The track now
drops down to a small stream (dry in the
Summer) with a concrete wall facing you. Turn sharp right and go under the
Railway Bridge, then immediately turn sharp right.
9.
Follow the
track for 100 metres.
10.
