Malaga City

Few people appreciate what a great city Malaga is. They have seen the plethora of unattractive high rise as they travel the outskirts and are put off. However, Malaga has much to offer and makes a great day out. Take the train and walk the castle walls for spectacular views.The Arab palace the Alcazabar lacks some of the oppulance of the Alhambra but makes up for it with its charm, You´ll be delighted by ther palace but, shocked by how such a fabulous treasure can be almost ignored by many guides.. Explore the tapas bars, and wander through the winding streets of the old town.

Every year Malaga carnival, with its spectacular costumes street theatre and bands, marks the run up to lent. Málaga is filled with colour and excitement as carnival parades take to the streets.The highlight is the main parade on Carnival Sunday, (15 February in 2009)

 

There is a programme to bring art to the streets which began with the work of the world-famous French sculptor, Auguste Rodin. The "Thinker" and six other Rodin´s bronze sculptures were on display in Calle Marqués de Larios, between 15th November and 19th December´07.. Dec 2008 saw Calle Larios plays host to a number of rare car engines.which will eventually be on show at the Museo del Automovil de Malaga                

The engines (left) were on display until January 2009 and, although this may enrage the purist and enthusiast, transformed into works of art with beautiful enamelling

With the programme of "art in the street" on going, other prominent works of art will be open to view, in the streets of Malaga, for the forseable future. All part of the metamorphosis of the city in its bid to become European City of Culture 2016 Or, to get a taste of an unspoilt Spanish town, spend some time in Alora, a typical “Pueblo Blanco” with whitewashed houses spilling down the hillside from a Moorish castle.                                                                                  

Granada

Visit the peaceful Generalife water gardens and the Alhambra palace in Granada. It is best to book which can be done on the internet. Tickets are time stamped and you need to allow time to travel before your entry time on your ticket..

Ronda

See the dramatic bridge joining the two cliffs on which Ronda is built;and visit the nearby cave village of Setenil.

Antequerra

Visit picturesque town of Antequerra, with a rich history dating back 4000 years.

For more natural sights, try Torcal National Park with its weird rock formations, the drama of the gorge at El chorro Close by is the old moorish settlement of bobastro.
