Malaga City
Few people appreciate what a great city Malaga is. They have seen the plethora of unattractive high rise as they travel the outskirts and are put off. However, Malaga has much to offer and makes a great day out. Take the train and walk the castle walls for spectacular views. The Arab palace the Alcazabar lacks some of the oppulance of the Alhambra but makes up for it with its charm, You´ll be delighted by ther palace but, shocked by how such a fabulous treasure can be almost ignored by many guides.. Explore the tapas bars, and wander through the winding streets of the old town.Every year Malaga carnival, with its spectacular costumes street theatre and bands, marks the run up to lent. Málaga is filled with colour and excitement as carnival parades take to the streets. The highlight is the main parade on Carnival Sunday, (15 February in 2009)
There is a
programme to bring art to the streets which began with the work
of the world-famous French sculptor, Auguste Rodin. The "Thinker" and six other Rodin´s bronze sculptures were on display in Calle Marqués de Larios,
between 15th November and 19th

Dec 2008 saw Calle Larios plays host to a number of rare car engines.which will eventually be on show at the Museo del Automovil de Malaga due to open June 2010

The engines (left) were on display until January 2009 and, although this may enrage the purist and enthusiast, transformed into works of art with beautiful enamelling

Calle Larios now host 16 works by the modernist sculpture Baltasar Lobo (lower right)
With the programme of "art in the street" on going, other prominent works of art will be open to view, in the streets of Malaga, for the forseable future. All part of the metamorphosis of the city in its bid to become European City of Culture 2016

through mature woodlands in the natural park in the mountains of Malaga to the east; or dramatic mountain and valley
pathways in the Sierra de las Nieves to the west. For walks around in the Alora region visit www.walkinginandalucia.com

Fuegoblanco is adjacent to Sierra De aguas, an unspòilt mountainous area where you can have an unforgettable day riding the trails on a donkey.

The Guadalahorce valley, an area rich in birdlife. From the terraces at Fuegoblanco
you can watch flocks of serrins, hoopoes feeding or green parakeets quarreling in the trees. Walk to the bottom
of the finca
and watch herons, egrets,
the occasional kingfisher and many others on the river. Birds spotted on our land in April include Squacco Heron, Woodchat Strike, Ciril Buntin, Ringed plover,Hoopoe bird, pictured far right
Travel a few
kilometres to El Chorro gorge and Bobastro to see vultures and peregrines. A little further north is Teba gorge,
home to several species of eagles; and lagoons where flamingos come to breed in spring. Or you can see sea birds
and waders in the natural park at the mouth of the Guadalahorce river near Malaga.
on
one of our terraces, or under a shady lemon tree. If you like the sea, our favourite beaches are in Malaga, a half
hour train ride away; or, popular with English visitors, are the beaches at Torremolinos, Fuengirola, Benalmadena,
and Marbella. For a change, we also like the spectacular drive east from Nerja to the pretty bay of La Herradura;
taking time to visit the amazing caves at Nerja on the way.
Come in spring for vivid greens, spring flowers and almond blossom; come in summer for Mediterranean browns and ochres; or come in autumn for the first flush of green on parched earth as the rains begin. You can watch the colours change on the mountains from here, or go further afield for the dramatic greys of El Chorro gorge or the extraordinary light in the sierras towards Ronda.
